New theme for 2012!

First off, Happy New Year!  I hope your Christmas and holiday season in general were uplifting and energizing.  I was surprised by how delightful mine turned out and how blessed I feel having so many loving, wonderful people in my life.  Thank you, all.

I'm not big on setting resolutions, but I am keen on setting goals and periodically re-evaluating my assumptions, my actions, and my direction.  It usually starts in December, I think more to avoid the whole 'new year's resolutions' gimmicks.  I do value having a general overall theme.  It helps me to stay focused, set priorities, and stay on target with goals.

In 2011, my theme was Building, which was entirely appropriate - I was not only building a house, but also re-building my life, my heart, and my spirit.  I have completed the major construction portions in all those areas, most notably the house.  Now, as I move into the finishing and design stages, I'm changing gears.  Yes, in many ways, I'm still building, but it's more finessed than that; I am having to consider how I want to live.

That leads me to the theme for 2012 - Simplicity.  It is an elegant concept.  Webster defines Simplicity in these terms: The quality of being simple*; freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts; absence of luxury, pretentiousness, etc., plainness; freedom from deceit or guile; sincerity, naturalness.  As I rebuild the details of my new life, the idea of simpliciy rises like cream to the top.

For all the ways I am pursuing simple living - self-sufficiencey, being debt-free, preparing for challenging times ahead, maintaining and growing healthy, loving, honest relationships - the most important part is removing from my life those things that are a distraction in my whole-hearted pursuit of God.  I'm eager to see the results of this experience.  I'll chronical some of it on the blog
For Such a Time as This, if you'd like to join me on this journey.

(*Simple means easy to understand; not elaborate or artificial; unaffected, unassuming modest; not complicated; unpretentious)

Construction Update
Accomplished
As of December 31, 2011
Excavation, drainage, and fill completed
Framing, siding, and roofing completed
Rough-in electrical completed.
Plumbing 90% complete - framing electrical and plumbing rough-in inspection planned for mid-January!

Construction Calendar
January - complete plumbing and inspections, begin insulation.
February - complete insulation, pass insulation inspection, begin sheet rock.
March - Depending on whether I hire sheet rock done or do it myself, I may still be hanging the blasted stuff, OR I'll be painting and planning to move back in.  I moved into the barn on March 19, 2011 - a year seems long enough to me.
